I auditioned for basically every college in the U.S.A last year for musical theatre and this is my advice.

NEVER, i mean Never sing a song from the play that you are going to sing.

Make sure that you have two CONTRASTING songs ie: one upbeat tempo song and one classical/slower tune.

Make sure that you also have two CONTRASTING monologues, one that is durring a time like today, and one older ie: shakespeare.

* ThE MOST IMPORTANT THING is to BE YOURSELFFF!!!! They like HAPPY, ENTERGETIC actors/actresses.

Dress in BLACK Slacks, And like a button up shirt.

WEARR HIGH HEELS!!! -- bigg deal!

Put your "STAGE MAKEUP" on ie: heavier, but not slutyy!

Good luck. if you need anything else email me.

Some tips:

don't audition with a song from the show

don't audition accapella (no sheet music)

don't bring recorded accompaniment

DO audition with something you have practice and fits you and the part/show you are going for - Example you wouldn't audition for Annie with a song from RENT

DO dress for success. Not jeans and a t-shirt, but something slightly dressier and classic that you can move in.

DO exude confidense (but not arrogance)

Break a leg!
It really depends on the director, so it would be safest to do a piece that is not in the show. Break a leg!
