No I actually liked it. Gloriously cheesy, even a bit camp. and almost reminiscent of Grease. Nothing wrong with a bit of fluffy feel-good nonsense every once in a while. I think it's loved by pre teens and then adults like me who find it reminds them of the children's programming I used to watch in the early 90s on a Saturday morning? All my friends like it too. I think a lot of responses are from people in their teens on here and lots will say "no it's lame"...they think they are too cool and are worried they will look silly if they admit to liking it. I was like that too when I was fifteen lol. Would never have admitted to liking anything cheesy like that. If you lose that level of shame you'll feel more comfortable about yourself.

YES! When I was younger, kids shows actually worth watching. Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, ReBoot, Legends of the Hidden Temple, and GUTS. Kids these days will never know what good tv is because the quality of shows aimed towards their generation will remain the same as they grow up. Too bad.

I have been playing for 20 years. I started at 12. I put it down for a while but picked it back up from 15 and haven't stopped. You can learn at 13! If your hands are too small you can buy instruments that are smaller than full size.

There's the original "Cage Aux Folles" from 1978... That's the one the Broadway musical and "The Birdcage" are based on. I don't think there's a musical version on film.

I know that sounds silly with it being a musical, but I recently saw Oliver! and it seemed as though it would be tough to have to learn all those steps, songs and lines within the short amount of rehearsal time. There is some dancing in Pinafore, probably a little less than most musicals, actually (in most productions I've seen, anyway). However, more in a Gilbert %26amp; Sullivan piece you really need to consider the speed of the music and the rapid wording that is used. The wording is more troublesome, at least to me, than the dancing.

I will be attending a university with a good but underpublicised theatre department as an acting/advertising major in the fall, and while I know I could get good roles in the straight plays, I would like to try to be involved in the musicals, too.
While I took lessons for several months during my Sophomore year of high school, my voice teacher refused to explore my full range, and I am now stuck with two unimpressive songs for a young soprano. While I can technically still use them, my voice would be better showcased by a higher alto piece, especially as almost NO musicals have parts that are purely high sopranos. I can think of a handful of songs that would be perfect, but I can't read music well, and don't have a pianist to rehearse with.
(I can peck out a song on my keyboard, but that's it.)

This is a good question for me because I'm in the same boat kinda. The only instrument I play is my voice so I do my rehearsing a capella unless I can find a recording of the song. My music reading skills are limited too. GOOD LUCK!

I think that you should do the songs that you think that you will be able to sing best. Get them on CD/iTunes and listen to them. Learn by ear.
Also make sure in college that you take some sort of Music Theory course or sight reading for singers or something.

You can't. Sorry, but you can't ... not and expect to do well at the audition. You need to rehearse your piece with an accompanist or vocal coach before going into the audition. Thank goodness we've not descended to the level of using accompaniment / karaoke tapes becasue you will have to sing with a piano or combo when you ultimately perform the show. Invest in enough money for an hour's worth of singing and suggestions from someone in your area who either accompanies musicals or church choirs. Maybe $50.
Make a 5 course musical menu for the perfect date or happy occasion...and explain why.

These songs just make me fell good about things. They make everything ok. I can relate to some of them. "Fearless" is about facing your fears and proving people wrong. "High and Dry" is about someone leaving their friends for fame, and winding up in the end loosing everything. "Dear Prudence" is basically John Lennon talking to someone named Prudence who is depressed and telling him/her to cheer up, come out of the closet, and enjoy life.

I really love acting and i'm quite good at it, but not good enough to make it to be famous - which has always been dream. I thought to give myself some experience, or like to help myself get used to the feel of actually acting in something big, I would try out for the play in my highschool, but of course I couldn't. The play, just like ALL other plays in my school are musicals. EVERY SINGLE ONE. If the play they want to do isn't a musical, they write songs to turn it into one, and everyone that's in it has to sing. But I can't sing. I can act, but not sing. So i really need advice on what to do to gain experience and stuff. I'm actually quite angry at my school - just going to throw that in there.
Try looking at other places that hold plays in your area. There has to be at least one play somewhere near you that isn't a musical. good luck and i hope you find something!

Try to find a small theater near your town and do community theater. I know I live in a SMALL town and..well school plays are kind of a joke there but there is a city closeby that has a community theater..so you could try that and maybe they wont all be musicals.

You might not be as bad a singer as you think. Who cares if you don't have a voice like an angel? If you can stay on key you can sing well enough for a high school musical.
Just as with acting, part of becoming a good singer is just taking the risk, putting yourself out there, and DOING IT! If your acting is strong enough, you can still get good roles in high school musicals It's just a high school production; their expectations are not that high. We're not talking about Broadway here. ;)
I am not a particularly wonderful singer, but I can project and I can stay more or less on key, and I can sing in character. I got every single role I auditioned for throughout high school, including in the musicals. (and I was never NOT involved in a production of some sort...that's pretty much all I did in high school was drama, drama, drama. We had a very, very active drama group at my school). My acting carried me through even though singing is not my strength.
You might show your dedication by talking to the choir director (or whoever is in charge of the singing part of the musicals) and letting them know that you want to audition but you feel your singing isn't strong enough. They may be able to recommend some exercises for you, or might even be willing to tutor you a little bit in preparation. It's worth a shot!
You dont need to be able to sing you just need to try to sing and as time goes on your voice will slowly get better and you will be able to start singing thats how i started out i started by teaching my self how to sing in my room by playing music and trying to match pitch to the music and now i have been almost to the point of getting payed to act and if you get thrown in the show just try it go for it push your self untill you get bettter thats all you need to do rilly

That girl is a jackass. Audra Macdonald played Grace in Annie and the lead in 110 in the Shade. Dark skinned Brian Stokes Mitchell headlined Kiss Me Kate. Half the cast of the Les Miz revival was "color-blind" casting.
These were all previously "white" roles. You go in there and do your best. Your friend is wrong. And I find it particularly ironic because one of the themes in Wicked concerns someone not being accepted because she is green. The requirement is not that Galinda is white, the requirement is that Elphie is green.
Yes, in Hairspray, it matters who is what color. Yes, in Ragtime, it matters who is what color. Both of those shows contrast whites and darker skinned people in a particular historical period. This is not one of those cases.

Your friend is a bigot. Race means nothing in today's theatre. Black and brown actresses have played Joan of Arc, Chinese and European roles as well as all kinds of American roles. Think Halle Berry. Now, you are brown skinned. No problem. All you got to do is have the moxie to sing the role and act the role. If you don't get it, just assume you were not good enough for the role at this time and will do better next time. Dump your 'friend.'

depends on what part you want to play, how ever, that is where make up and wigs come in as well, so, i see no problems with skin color...sound to me like that girl don鈥瞭 like your color or is afraid you might get the part she wants...work hard and don鈥瞭 let any one stand in your way :)
There is nothing wrong with the color of someones skin.Your friend should have said --You may be great for the part but it helps people to look like the person that is playing the part.Which of course you could have said i can be made to look the part .Go for it

if you were going to dress up wear a short white pleated skirt, white running shoes with knee length red socks and a red singlet! you can also wear a headband/ribbons if your hair if its long enough! stick to red and white though because those are the high school musical colours. you could always put war paint on in 2 lines on your cheeks as well, or put a little emblem on your singlet saying wildcats because thats the name of their team.

i'm doing my GCSE music composition and have to hand it in in two weeks. i'm totally stuck. we have to write a piece to be played ina art gallery to represent different paintings which depict different times of day. (we can have 2-5 instrumnts and can represent any combo of morning, afternoon, evening and night). i've tried to do a jazz piece but found it really tricky so what shall i do? i'd like to do something with piano and guitar. but i don't know what. i need ideas eg a ragtime waltz in 3/4 in c major. any rhythm and melody tips would be much appreciated!!! :]
I would have to see these paintings before I make some recommendations. If the paintings give you an impression of Ragtime then that's fine but if this music style doesn't fit in with the painting that perhaps it's not a good idea.
Here's what you can check:
- still life
- lots of action
- battle scene
- just some abstract figures
- colours of the picture
- is the painting angular
For example, if it's a still life then I'd use some piano only music, whereas if it was a battle scene then I'd use some dramatic music with drums. If the painting has predominantly blue colour (especially if the brush strokes are quite fluidy too) then I'd try to go for some of these new age type music with a bit of water sound in it (but not a waterfall, rather a stream gently flowing). But you could use other nature sound effects too with your music, like ocean waves, bird singing, lighning/thunder sounds etc.

First of all, its spelled cello. Or, more correctly, 'cello, which is short for violincello. Just had to correct that earlier person. (I'm a cellist, what can I say?)
You probably can't start this beautiful instrument because you do need left arm strength as the other person mentioned. However, piano is a gorgeous place to start. Yes, many people play it. But they play it for a reason. It's versatile, it has a huge repertoire, and if you ever choose to start another instrument, the knowledge you'll gain from the piano is immeasurable.
Other options include: oboe, bassoon, French Horn, saxophone, guitar, voice (always to be considered. The human voice is an amazing instrument), electric bass, any type of recorder.

try the french horn i play that and they have supports for ur left hand (pinky and thumb) and its just three notes and u dont really have to hold it up... besides the french horn parts arent too intense
play or learn piano. At least, your arms are by your side and don't need ant effort to hold since they are resting at 90 deg.

It's for a middle school musical. I'm scared. What if i dont get in?
Okay, well, first off, if you're nervous, you're most likely to mess up and nobody wants to do that--so be cool about it.
First off:
Do you know who you wanna audition for? Have you gotten in the character's shoes and points of view in the play? If they're suppost to cry or stand up for what they believe, would you play that part well? If your answer is "YES" than good job, but practice doesn't hurt and you may wanna practice speech in the mirror and around the house. Hell! Even try youtube (youtube.com) people on there give full advice, don't lie, and rate so you know what they think of you acting.
Second:
Do you have a monolouge and song to perform when auditioning? Make sure you're comfortable with it and ask family, friends, family friends, and neighbors to come over tomorrow night and watch you practice so that way you get their opinions, because they matter, believe it or not. The director is looking to WOW! the audience--are you capible of giving him that WOW! plus 110%?
Third:
Have you had any experince? Any acting classes? Have you ever given a speech? Are you shy, outgoing, or just open to your friends and YOUR friends only? If the 1st or 3rd one, try offering to read that paper that's due in LA tomorrow or talking more to the WHOLE* class a lot in front of them to build up confidence.
Don't worry, just try not to get your hopes up too high, but if you PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE! you'll most likely get a part. REMEMBER: If nervous, you'll most likely mess up, you don't wanna do that, so be chill and relax...it'll make you feel a lot better.
Oh! And when you're auditioning, don't stare at the back wall or at an empty seat pretending your grandma is there--Make eye contact with the director and any other possible people who are in the room when you're auditioning---eye contact is the key to a good play and once making eye contact with the audience--they'll feel more connected to the play/musical.
Ahh, yes, I've seemed to forget that this is a musical. Do you have a piano or guitar at home? Anything that you can practice your scale with? If not, just do wacky tongue twisters and breathing teqniques.
Okay, tips BEFORE auditions:
-When mom says, "drink your milk!" on Wednesday morning, don't. DON'T DRINK MILK ON THE DAY OF THE AUDITIONS! Milk clogs your throat basically and it makes your singing voice hoarse.
-Do breathing excersises before going to bed tomorrow night, Wednesday morning, and before the auditions.
-Breath! Don't hold your breath in--we all do it!
If you don't get in, well, then you know to practice. Try signing up for costume design or make up. You'll still get a look at acting and theatre from back there.
Remember, you're the best, you can do this--you're better than any actress out there and you're capible of doing what any other chicka out there can do and more! You are superman on the Earth's last day, you are the best...you can do this and you have this play in the palm of your hands! You, my friend, are better than anyone out there.

All you can do is your best. You'll either make it, or you won't. But you'll never have the chance if you don't try!!
If you don't get in? Your life will continue pretty much the same as it's going now. You won't have to worry about all those extra rehearsals, costumes, line learning, song learning, and all the other things that take up so much time and effort and energy when you're appearing onstage.
Of course, you'll also be disappointed and may think you could have done better. This, too, shall pass. You'll get over it, you'll grow, you'll improve your acting and singing skills, you'll audition again, and eventually you will get "in."
That said, the way to do your best is to be sure of yourself. Get a good night's rest the previous night, eat decent meals the day of the audition, get a little exercise (a brisk walk around the school buildings should do it) just before going in to auditioon, and be as easy to work with as you know how. (No director in his or her right mind wants a difficult performer to work with, after all.) Be considerate and polite and even kind. Smile. Be friendly. Everyone else is at least as nervous as you are. Helping them calm down will also help you calm down because it will take your focus off yourself. Funny how that works.
Enjoy yourself and everyone else. Have a good time at the audition.
Just make sure you are 110% confident with your song. It may sound stupid, but practicing what you're going to say to the director or whover is auditioning you beforehand. Knowing what you're going to say before going into the room is really helpful in keeping you focused and calm before you start singing your audition. In the world of theater, sometimes you will get in, and sometimes you won't. Don't worry about not getting in until after your audition is over. Just put your best foot forward, practice your song, stay healthy, and relax. Good Luck!

1) smile no matter wat keep ur composer dot let them know ur nervous or if u mess up
2) wear something nice but not overly nice ex. Do Not wear t-shirt and jeans DO wear jeans and a nicer shirt
3)have a song that is short sweet and has a range

Don't worry about it too much. Just remember to breath. Do your best and I'm sure you'll be okay. If for some reason you don't get cast, then sign up to work on costumes, set, or make up. It'll be fun and you'll learn a lot more about theater than you can by only performing.
No matter what you do, try not to be nervous. If you're more confident, you'll do a better job. You own this! Don't worry, just go out there and show them what you can do.

Electric organs can have a "Choir" setting, also sometimes called 'Vox Humana" on large pipe organs, but the only "CHIOR" is a group of people singing together.

They already held auditions in our area - Mlps, St. Paul. That was before Christmas.
I'll post this yet again:
"The Disney Channel" doesn't have auditions. It's not a junior high play. The shows on the Disney Channel have casting people who send out what are called "breakdowns" to registered agents. These are lists of roles that are being cast and the types of actors that are needed. The agents then comb through their clients to see if any of them meet those criteria. If they do, those actors (or the video reels of their previous work) are sent out to read for particular parts. The network doesn't just hold an open audition and hope that people will show up.
You're not going to get seen by anyone at any of the production companies just by contacting them and telling them how much you like their shows. You need to have a legitimate agent who will send you out for jobs, and even then the odds are slim of A) even getting an agent in the first place, B) getting sent out for something, and C) getting sent out for a show on the Disney Channel.

Try auditioning for one of the stage productions. Hopefully there is a theater doing it in your area. I bet it'll be just as much fun.
frozen.. you are incorrect. There are many productions that hold "open auditions" you do not need representation- but of course it's better if you do have it. If someone wants to be an actor or dancer, you are better off seeking an agent than chasing down open auditions that have hundreds and hundreds of people. When you have an agent, you have better auditions (appt times etc) where you are not there for hours on end. Anyhow there are many sites to use to help whether you have representation or not. 3 of these are:

Hey I live in Utah too. How neat. Dance auditions are this coming week but the deadline for that was last night. Go to utahextras.com and create a profile, they might still be accepting applicants for HSM 2 but even if you do that there is no guarantee you'll be chosen to be in the movie. Lucky for us Utahn's cuz they only accept people from Utah.
